Happy New Year!!!

I cannot believe it's already 2010. Can't wait for the Olympics to start. It will give me a reason to stay shut in from the cold. Today there was a bitter wind and snow squalls off and on. I turned up the heat, tuned the tv to the Fireside Channel where I enjoyed the popping, cracking sounds of the wood burning in the fireplace. I needed the smell of the smoke to enhance the atmosphere and incense just didn't do it. Alas..
.
When I tired of my knitting, I switched over to my precious little book, "Shadow of the Vampuss".written by Karen Mahony and Alex Ukolov. It's a retelling of Brahm Stoker's "Dracula" with a cast of felines. The book review warns against exposing the story to under-age kittens. And the illustrations are beautiful. I find it incredible that vampire stories are all the rage. I thought of reading the 'Twilight" series but I think I may be too old for this. When I was about 11 years old, I started reading Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, Brahm Stoker, and Sherlock Holmes. I have no idea how I was turned on to this reading and I'm sure I was even more frightened by not understanding the 'big' words. My grandfather was heavily into Perry Mason and James Bond and he loaned me his books. Needless to say, I didn't miss an episode of Perry Mason on TV. And Hamilton Burger yelling his objection: "Incompetent, irrelevant and immaterial'.
Those were the days.

I haven't been able to read the Vampire series either, but maybe. I think I'll be to scared to go out at night. Have a great new year.
